Covered is a mashup of Thomas Sayers Ellis’ photographs of DC relating to Chuck Brown and Rosina Teri Memolo’s photography inspired fine art, which gives you a “backstage pass” glimpse of legendary artists that will take you back to those moments when you first fell in love with HipHop. as well as MuralsDC artists Pose 2, Vice Versa, DECOY, Aniekan Udofia, Cita Sadeli ‘Chelove’, Juan Pineda and Coby ‘DEMON’ Kennedy.

Check us out this weekend! The Gallery will be open Fridays & Saturdays from 5-8pm & Sunday from 3-6pm.

This Friday, July 13, 5-8 PM in association with MuralsDC and Words, Beats and Life, I present Covered. 3500 12th ST NE Covered is a mashup of MuralsDC artists, striking photographs and fine art pieces curated by local artist Rosina Teri Memolo. Covered features captivating images of Chuck Brown, honoring the passing of DC’s undisputed Godfather of Gogo by Thomas Sayers Ellis. Rosina Teri Memolo’s photography inspired fine art gives you a “backstage pass” glimpse of legendary artists that will take you back to those moments when you first fell in love with HipHop. In the last seven years, MuralsDC has worked to turn graffiti riddled spaces into momentous murals though a partnership between DC Department of Public Works and the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities. Covered will show you gallery work from these beloved muralists: Pose 2, Cita Sadeli “Chelove”, Aniekan Udofia, Vice Versa, Juan CRI Pineda, DECOY and Coby DEMON Kennedy. Round that all off with good folks, DJ RBI as our in-house music director and some beverages and Covered is sounding like a party…! See you Friday.

Albus Cavus classes, The Fridge, February, 14, 2010 On February 14, JaziRock aka Kevin Irwin taught a class in stenciling for Albus Cavus at The Fridge.  We learned volumes about stenciling history and techniques.  We cut out some of Jazi’s stencils to get us started and some people even gave Jazi’s stencils new twists.  In the two stencils pictured, Obama has an antenna and the roach now has a shovel… I think the latter stencil is saying that Department of Public Works should arm the roaches with shovels and maybe DC would get dug out faster. Classes are 2-4 PM every Sunday at The Fridge.  The next class is Silk Screening with one of my favorite revolutionaries, Cesar Maxit (at the Freezer, not the fridge)  Then Large Portraits Through the Grid with Juan “Cri” Pineda, Sun, Feb 28.  And The week after, March 7, is a class I am teaching, Photography 101.  Bring your cameras and some examples of your work to share.  I believe we can all teach each other something, so it is open to pro gear as well as point and shoot cameras.  We will talk about techniques to document murals, and how to use them creatively and make it your own art.
