Please come share a night with JAZIROCK as he displays his and his friends’ abstract work at the MOCA gallery in Georgetown. Come along as Jazi breaks a wrinkle in time with abstract pieces that reflect the urban landscape of Baltimore in the 1980’s. Originating from picking up cans in the alley with his mother, Jazi’s new line of work hopes to express through found objects the abstract view on death and symbolism.

This upcoming Saturday, Asad ULTRA Walker and I are organizing an art exhibit/sale representing The Fridge at the first annual Riverfront Festival at the Capitol Riverfront by Nationals Park in SE. This event takes place October 9th 11am-7pm and will include live music on 3 stages, a b-boy competition, ours and many other artist’s artwork, kids’ funzone and lots of local food. Come be a part of history with us as we launch a new festival…
We will be setting up several tents showcasing local artists and selling artwork, prints and apparel.

Meet Albus Cavus artists and check out our recent and current projects. We hung this show last night and it looks like its going to be fun for everyone. Come on out and bring your friends, all the usual suspects will be in the house: Decoy, Ultra, Jazi, Peter Krsko, me and more… Snacks, drinks and music; the trifecta of fun plus the lovely smoking balcony.

Albus Cavus artists and students have been working out of The Freezer, a space provided by Alex Gold of The Fridge. In the recent heat, the Summer Youth employees have produced artwork for Ballou High School, several voting hand sculptures, a snazzy line of Tshirts and designs for more murals. All that in only 6 weeks with no air conditioning. I get faint just thinking about it.
Please tour the studio to learn about current public art projects and donate to keep the workspace open… Discuss Future Murals on along Pennsylvania Avenue, SE. Art Exhibit + Auction and Raffle; Music and Performances; Students’ Presentations; Refreshments… I hear we are grilling, so come get your eat on.

Albus Cavus classes, The Fridge, February, 14, 2010
On February 14, JaziRock aka Kevin Irwin taught a class in stenciling for Albus Cavus at The Fridge. We learned volumes about stenciling history and techniques. We cut out some of Jazi’s stencils to get us started and some people even gave Jazi’s stencils new twists. In the two stencils pictured, Obama has an antenna and the roach now has a shovel… I think the latter stencil is saying that Department of Public Works should arm the roaches with shovels and maybe DC would get dug out faster.
Classes are 2-4 PM every Sunday at The Fridge. The next class is Silk Screening with one of my favorite revolutionaries, Cesar Maxit (at the Freezer, not the fridge) Then Large Portraits Through the Grid with Juan “Cri” Pineda, Sun, Feb 28. And The week after, March 7, is a class I am teaching, Photography 101. Bring your cameras and some examples of your work to share. I believe we can all teach each other something, so it is open to pro gear as well as point and shoot cameras. We will talk about techniques to document murals, and how to use them creatively and make it your own art.
