Art All Night-DC/ Nuit Blanche had amazing venues and accidently fell on the same weekend as (e)merge Art Fair… #winning Our contribution at 1226 9th ST NW grew from introducing my students to an artist, JR who launched a global project called InsideOut which seeks to change the world through art. The youth were excited by some of the beautiful things JR had done with photographs and jumped to make some of their own. In the process they learned to focus and compose an image for a demanding client (me). These faces belong to students of Words Beats and Life inc in the Edgewood Terrace and Lincoln Heights Communities: Ayre Alexander, Spirit Tolen, Kairea Cunningham, Major Bryant, Manny Charles, Deven Tolen, Shawn Addison, Money, Shawn Alexander and Malachai Byrd. Shot by students I guided through the process: Gary Henderson, Alex Bryant, Christopher Parks, Erin Bryant, Arye Alexander, Kairea Cunningham, Amondashey Brisco. I shot the smaller photos of eyes and collaged, painted and installed on the building. I hope the next project we conquer is this much fun…

SEPTEMBER 24, 2011; 7pm-3am  Art All Night: Nuit Blanche DC Watch as DC’s creative community re-imagines public and private space and invites us all to see our city anew. Art All Night: Nuit Blanche DC is an all-night exploration and celebration of contemporary art, stretching from the heart of Chinatown to the Shaw neighborhood.   On September 24th, indoor and outdoor venues will showcase work by artists in a diverse range of media-vibrant visual arts, street performances, live music, and DJs contributing to an unprecedented mash-up of cultural experiences in the nation’s capital. With this inaugural festival Washington DC joins a global network of Nuit Blanche all-night arts events, that started in Paris in 2002 and has captivated audiences from Toronto to Tel Aviv. I’ll be adding striking black and white images to the landscape of 9th Street NW at 1126 9th ST NW. The images are of and by Words Beats and Life students in Edgewood Terrace and Lincoln Heights. I am the instructor/group leader of an Inside Out Project Group Action.
